Ho Chi Minh City - (Spring 2025) - Day 3
Cooking Class
Started the day with a cooking class. The class started with a tour of the Ben Thanh Market followed by a ride to the cooking school Made mango salad with shrimp, bun noodles with pork, and some chicken pho.
While walking around we saw some dogs keeping cool in their ride
Metro
The Ho Chi Minh Metro system literally opened just a few months before we got to the city. It is only one line that doesn’t really take you to most of the places you would want to go and the sparse amount of trains mean that you have to wait a while in between trains if you just miss one.
At least it’s cheap and clean and has AC.
District 2
We ventured over to District 2 on the Metro. The city is identified by different districts and this one is known for being where a lot of expats live.
The 6ix Saigon
This bar must be frequented by Canadians as indicated by the flags, the mini-Stanley Cup, and the names of the cocktails. We got here when it opened so it was rather quiet at that time. We enjoyed some cocktails and then took a car back to District 1.
Bakolan - Whisky & Cigar
The name of the place is rather self explanatory. I brought my own cigar and had to pay a cutting fee which was fine as all they had were some expensive Cuban options for cigars. The guys working here were pretty cool and had fun talking to some younger folks.
Quán Ngon - Bún Chả Hà Nội
We headed down to the Bui Vien area and needed some proper food for the evening. We found this great little bun cha place a block over from the street.
Bùi Viện Walking Street
Bui Vien is the famous party street with music pumping and girls dancing on stages all along the street. Not really my thing but you should go see it at least once.
View Bar - Rooftop Bar
A nice reprieve from the chaos of Bui Vien are the roof top bars that you can find along the street. They offer a much calmer atmosphere with nice views of the city. This one is accessed from the Duc Vuong Hotel. A single elevator takes you all the way to the roof.
