Marrakesh - (Fall 2025) - Day 1

Left Bayeux on the train early because we had to get back to Paris on onto an afternoon flight to Morocco. Always a little stressful if you have to depend on multiple things to be on schedule on a travel day. Luckily there were no train delays that day. We got to the airport early and had plenty of time to kill.

Waiting for the flight in Paris

I have always enjoyed the Gontran Cherrier bakery and was happy to find one at the airport. Got a sandwich instead of the usual sweet pastries I usually get. We killed time with wine at a sandwich shop before passing through immigration because we were unsure what services were on the other side. As it turned out there were a lot of shops and restaurants available on the other side (and nicer ones) so we decided on one more drink before the flight.

I had never flown EasyJet before. It is one of those budget European airlines.

It was fine for a short flight. The seats don’t recline and there aren’t many services so you wouldn’t want to do a long flight with them.

Marrakesh Airport

First time setting foot in Africa.

Landed at sunset and the airport had a cool looking facade on the outside. No jetways here so you have to walk down the tarmac from the flight to the terminal. Immigration was not the fastest but got through ok.

The official taxi line was a little hard to find as there are other services in between the official taxi stand and the terminal. We went to the official one since we figured we would be less likely to be scammed.

It was also not easy to find the riad hotel in the old town where it is just small alleys inside the city walls.

Restaurant Mohammed Salama De Palestine

Needing food after the flight we just went to the little shop nearby the hotel. I assume this is the name since it is on the menu.

There was a big commotion outside when we were eating with people marching and yelling.

I believe people were celebrating a decision that allowed Morocco to administer the Western Sahara territories. I’m not sure but it was the only event that I saw was happening when I searched the news.
