Bangkok - (Spring 2025) - Day 4
Tops Food Hall
We started the day headed to this food hall just as it opened to beat the lunch crowd. This is an excellent food hall with stalls and also proper restaurants. Locals also hit the food halls in the malls for lunch since they are so good and affordable so they can get pretty busy.
Phed Phed Pop (Tops Food Hall)
This was the place that a local told us to go to get some great pork larb so we hit the food court when it opened. She was correct as the larb was excellent. Also got a bowl of noodle soup as well.
MBK Mall
MBK is the mall for the people. It is more targeted for the bargain shopper. They also have an entire floor dedicated to electronics where you can find or repair anything. This place has many floors of anything that you could want and also a food hall.
MBK Mall Food Hall
This is a big food hall floor ringed with all different types of food vendors. The large seating area is in the middle. You bus your own tray here (like Singapore) which is a bit different than the other mall food courts in Bangkok. The method of payment here is you first pre-load some money on a ticket from a machine and use that ticket to pay for food. You can then redeem any unused money from your ticket when you leave. We got a stir fried pork basil dish along with a fruit drink for a snack.
Gaze Cocktail Bar
We went back bar hopping in Thong Lo and started at this bar. It was located behind this freaky big mouse statue thing in front of some storefronts. Its theme is astronomical with the star ceiling and night scenes rotating behind the bar. It gave a great vibe to the bar. The menu was a blank book that you used a black light to illuminate in order to read the menu. This was a fun bar and the bartender gave us a parting shooter of liquor when we left.
008 Bar (MUU Hotel)
Don’t know why they have the name 008 but this sleek and modern place feels like where 007 would hang out. This bar is kind of a speakeasy in the MUU Hotel. You have to go up to the hotel pool level and go to the back and after finding the door you go past this anteroom that looks like and old study. Once you go past the curtain you are greeted by a lot of wood and leather. It feels Japanese in a pristine kind of way.
Nagiya Thonglo 9
I was just looking for a quick bite to eat later in the evening. I did not expect to find an izakaya better than a lot of food I’ve found in Tokyo. The cucumber dish was topped with fried minced garlic. The chicken skin skewer was crisp and fatty. Everything was excellent, if you are in this neighborhood - eat here. They also have a thick menu with a lot of offerings.
J.Boroski
Our final bar of the night was this upscale place that you find after walking down a sketchy looking alley and go through a very unremarkable looking door. There is a single bartender making bespoke cocktails depending on your tastes. This was a great place to have the last cocktail on this trip to Bangkok.
