Da Nang - (Spring 2025) - Day 3

Gear Cafe and Bistro

Tried some of the espresso at this place a few blocks off the beach.

Views from the Beach Day

We were fortunate to have great sunny days here and took advantage of it by hitting the beach. Certain sections have day beds set up where you can rent it at a very affordable rate for the day. Some places will give you a towel and some places will charge you for one (again - not very expensive- it ain’t Vegas prices here). You can also order drinks and food from the chairs. This is a great way to enjoy the beach here.

Views from the Water

The water was nice and comfortably warm. They did have lifeguards at the beach and there were certain designated swim areas. I don’t know if that meant the other areas were hazardous or maybe the lifeguards wanted to be able to just monitor certain areas instead of the entire length of the long beach.

Bếp Cuốn Đà Nẵng

The restaurants on the beach side of town are understandably more touristy. This was another place that had very high ratings on searches but did end up filled with mostly foreigners. The food was good but the vibe was not local. We shared a sampler platter along with some beers.

Black Wolf

Staying on the beach side, we went in search of cocktail bars on this side of town. This was a classy little bar with a water moat like a river going down the bar. I had asked them if anyone ever lost a phone in it. When they said no - I was a bit incredulous. Here the little rectangular mats were actually used for drinks instead of your phone.

The bar here did custom cocktails. No menu. You just tell them the kind of drink or flavors you like and they make it.

Bar Eau de Vie

You would think the name of this bar would be “Don’t come here” for how hard they make it to find. The guys at the previous bar had to give us the directions (in the map image above). The correct location doesn’t come up in a search and you could wind up wandering these alleys for a while looking for it.

The owner said that he likes that it being just a word of mouth place and pretty much the only people who come here have been directed here from another bar. It is a tiny spot so it’s not like he could handle a ton of traffic anyway.

The drinks here trend towards the more classic style and made with a lot of care. It feels like a place in Japan - small, intimate, clean, simple, classic with high attention to detail. They also have resident cats that you may see when they are not too shy.

Bar Flow

The owner of Eau de Vie told us to head around the corner and try this new place. When we asked the bartenders here how long they had been open they said that this was the 4th day so it was brand new. This was a fun and lively bar. They had fancy ice cubes with the bar logo on them.

This was also a bar where you filled out a card saying the type of drink that you are looking for and they create the cocktail. You can choose the types of flavors, liquors, and glass style you want your drink to be. I also liked their cabinet of glassware at the end of the bar.
