Washington DC (Winter 2026) - Day 4
National Air and Space Museum
This was the perfect thing to do on a cold and rainy day. It had also been decades since I last visited here and it is very different inside. There were still a few display wings being constructed but it seems like all of the displays have been renovated and moved since the last time.
The main entry hall used to be a lot more cluttered with air and space craft but now some have been moved to their own displays. There was a tour that started when I got there so I joined it. It was very much worth it as the guide can give you more background and point out stuff you may have missed.
I also learned from the docent that the museum has another building out by Dulles Airport that is a huge hangar where they display the large planes like the Enola Gay, the Concorde, and an SR-71. That museum is also free.
Your Only Friend
This awesome sandwich was called the “RPG” with char siu, garlic mayo, bok choy and hot duck sauce
It said that this was a “rotating sandwich” so I guess not always on the menu
I found this place by Mount Vernon Square by searching for a place with good cocktails and snacks. It did not disappoint. It was actually very busy when I got there due to the younger crowd liking their leisurely lunches and this was a Sunday. I had to wait a little bit for a seat to open at the bar. There is a counter when you walk in where you can just order take out food. Great cocktails and great food here with a casual vibe.
TG Cigars
Being that there was still a consistent cold rain coming down outside, it was convenient that this place was pretty much next door. I was not planning on hitting a cigar bar this afternoon but it seemed as good an idea as any for the afternoon.
You can bring your own here as well but they ask that you at least buy one cigar from them. Comfy bar area with lots of TV’s for sports. Good liquor selection as well.
The Hamilton
The “District Wings” were fantastic
Nice and crispy with tasty mumbo sauce and extra sauce on the side
I had not originally set out to go to this classic place close to the White House but I’m glad I wound up there. I had planned on getting a kebab but that place was closed (even though Google said it was open), but this place was just down the street.
It seemed a little too fancy on the outside but everyone is very casual and welcoming inside. I sat at the bar not realizing there was another full bar further inside. In fact I realized the place was gigantic when I went to find the restroom and the dining area just kept on going and going.
Great classy old school Washington feel to the place.
I ended the night at Shelly’s Back Room again
I ordered a double bourbon to make the minimum $30 spend - that is a huge pour
